FAQ

What is Droplock?

Droplock keeps your private photos and videos out of your camera roll. You add them to a vault that's locked behind a passcode — with optional Face ID and Location Lock on top — and they're stored at full original quality. Works on iPhone and Android.

Will I lose any quality or metadata?

No — your files are stored exactly as captured. No recompression, no resizing.

This includes HEIC, JPEG, PNG, RAW, ProRAW, HDR, 4K, ProRes, and HEVC. Your EXIF, date, GPS, camera, and lens details stay intact too — on the way in and the way out.

Do Live Photos and Motion Photos stay live?

Yes. Live Photos (iPhone) and Motion Photos (Android) keep their movement and sound. They're never flattened into a plain still or a regular video.

How do I unlock a vault?

Each vault has its own passcode — one passcode, one vault. For extra protection, you can add:

  • Biometrics — Face ID, Touch ID, or Android biometrics
  • Location Lock — the vault only opens in places you trust

These sit on top of your passcode. They don't replace it — your passcode is always required.

Can I have more than one vault?

Yes, with Premium. One passcode opens one vault, and Premium gives you unlimited vaults — so your work, personal, and shared media can each live in their own.

What is a decoy vault?

Any of your vaults can be your decoy. If someone makes you "show what's in the app," you open the one with the non-sensitive stuff — while your real vault stays hidden behind a different passcode. You decide what goes where.

Can I disguise the app?

Yes — you can make it not look like a vault. Swap the home-screen icon for something ordinary.

On Android you can change the app's name too. On iPhone, only the icon can be swapped.

Can people screenshot my vault?

No. Droplock blocks screenshots, screen recording, and the app-switcher preview — so nothing shows, even while the app is open or running in the background.

What is Location Lock?

It keeps your vaults shut unless you're somewhere you trust. With Premium, you set "safe zones" (like home). If you're forced to open the app anywhere else, the vault stays sealed.

What are Intruder Alerts?

With Premium, a wrong passcode triggers a response. Droplock can:

  • Snap a photo of whoever's trying to get in
  • Sound an alarm
  • Log the time, and the location if you allow it
Who can see my photos?

Only you. On your phone, your media is locked behind your passcode and kept out of your camera roll and cloud photo libraries.

Turn on cloud backup (Premium) and each vault is stored encrypted, with its own key.

How do I add photos to a vault?
  • On iPhone: share photos to Droplock from anywhere. They land in your Drop Zone, where you review them and move them into a vault. (Anything left there clears after 30 days.)
  • On Android: import straight from the app.

Large imports keep going in the background, and you can sort everything into albums.

Does Droplock work offline?

Yes. Your vault lives on your device, so you can browse and add to it with no connection. Only cloud backup needs the internet.

Why does Droplock ask for location access?

It's optional. Droplock only uses location if you turn on Location Lock, or let Intruder Alerts record where an attempt happened. Skip those, and it never needs your location.

I'm getting a new phone — can I move my vault?

Yes — two ways:

  1. Cloud backup (Premium) — back up your vaults, then sign in on the new phone to restore them. Easiest option.
  2. Manual export — save each vault as a .zip file and move it across yourself.
What if I forget my passcode?

We can't recover it — and that's by design. Your passcode is the only key to your vault. Droplock can't reset, bypass, or recover it.

If it's lost, the vault can't be opened — so please keep it somewhere safe.

Is Droplock free?

Yes — free, with ads. Premium removes the ads and unlocks:

  • Unlimited vaults (including decoy vaults)
  • Unlimited albums
  • Cloud backup & restore
  • Location Lock
  • Intruder Alerts (photo + alarm)
I deleted the app from my phone. Can I recover my data?

Only if you had a backup. Your vaults live on your device, so deleting the app removes them from that phone.

  • With cloud backup (Premium): reinstall Droplock, sign in, and restore.
  • Without a backup: unless you saved a .zip export, the data is gone — we keep no copy on our side.
I bought Premium on my iPhone — can I use it on my iPad for free?

Yes — no second charge. Premium follows your Apple ID:

  1. Sign in to your iPad with the same Apple ID.
  2. Open Droplock and tap Restore Purchases.
How do I cancel my subscription?

You cancel through the store, not inside Droplock — Apple or Google handles the billing:

  • iPhone/iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Droplock → Cancel. (Apple's guide)
  • Android: Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Droplock → Cancel. (Google's guide)

You'll keep Premium until the end of the current billing period.
